Lane Agri-Park Site Development
Contact: Anthony Tuggle
Phase I - Completed.
The Lane Agri-Park Office Complex is a 25,000 sq. ft. facility which was completed in December of 2003. It serves as home for the Rutherford County Extension Staff and USDA Service Center personnel. The facility has a 3,000 sq. ft. auditorium with an adjacent kitchen which is fully functional. The auditorium is utilized by Extension personnel, and the general public for various educational, cultural, social and recreational activities. Various requirements coordinated through Rutherford County Extension must be met by the general public before use of the facility is authorized.
Phase II - Completed
Phase II of the Lane Agri-Park site development project included the construction of a Community Center, Livestock Barn, and the infrastructure necessary for support of the new facilities. Construction on the Phase II project started in April of 2008, and it was completed in June of 2009. Although not a part of the Phase II project, a pavilion was also constructed while the Community Center and Livestock Barn were being built.
The Community Center is a 16,500 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility. It will be used for various programs designed to meet the educational, cultural, social, and recreational needs of county residents. Extension will utilize the facility for various educational programs as well as a Farmer’s Market operation. Other county departments will be able to use the facility for business meetings, and it will be available for use by the general public for events such as weddings, wedding receptions, anniversary and birthday celebrations, family reunions, and … the list just goes on and on.
The Livestock Barn is a 28,500 sq. ft. facility. The primary use of this facility will be for livestock activities such as shows, judging team training, and project group meetings for 4-H’ers who participate in beef, dairy, sheep, goat, poultry, and other livestock projects. Agricultural agents will use the facility for field day and demonstration activities which relate to their work with livestock producers. The facility will also be available for livestock shows, auctions, and other activities scheduled by livestock organizations or the general public.
The Pavilion is a 900 sq. ft. facility. It will be used as an "outdoor" classroom to further the Environmental Education Program. Various 4-H activities will be conducted from the Pavilion to accommodate the “hands-on” learning designed for life skill development of youth served by the 4-H program.
Phase III - Projected.
This phase is projected following completion of Phase II. It includes the construction of an Agri-Tourism Center. At present, personnel from the Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University are assisting with the design as well as other aspects of the Agri-Tourism Center.
Phase IV - Projected.
This phase is projected following completion of Phase III. It includes the construction of a Park Area which is intended for use as an outdoor classroom by Extension personnel. It will include a pond for aquaculture studies, various demonstration plots, and areas for recreation as well as various other uses by the general public.
